Tonight’s (Tues 26th) Airtricity League results:

U17 result – Shelbourne 2-0 Derry City

U19 result – Longford Town 5-2 Derry City

Derry City U19s suffered a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Longford Town at the City Calling Stadium on Tuesday evening.

It was Longford’s first win over Derry since the establishment of the Under 19 Elite League in 2011 and moved the Midlanders up two places to seventh in table with City remaining in second place one point behind leaders Dundalk.

The home side were three goals ahead by the thirty fifth minute, goals from Dan Beya, Tristan Noack-Hofmann and an OG before a Gareth McFadden penalty brought the Candy Stripes back into contention just before half time.

Derry were reduced to ten men in the second period before a Matty Doherty effort reduced the deficit on 75 mins.

Longford restored their two goal advantage four minutes later through Noack-Hofmann and in stoppage time Connor Smith added a fifth to end a miserable evening for City’s youngsters.

Derry’s next fixture is at home to league leaders Dundalk on Saturday 6th August, Venue To Be Confirmed.
