The Derry City board met and reluctantly came to he decision to withdraw from the Irish League and all its other competitions.

“In view of the decision of the Irish League Management Committee to ban Brandywell, a resolution was passed unanimously by the Board of Derry City Football Club that membership of the Irish league be withdrawn as from Friday.
The board have considered all relevant matters and in particular the fact that the Management Committee of the Irish Football League have seen fit not to accept the recommendations and indeed the encouragement of the security authorities that a return to brandywell was advisable.
At considerable cost to the club, Derry City for the past three years have kept football alive in the interested of the Irish League and indeed the community at large in what can only be described as the most difficult of circumstances.
We thank our players and supporters who have supported us in our difficult task for the past three years and hope that they appreciate that the Board have no alternative but to come to this decision”.
