FEBRUARY 27th 1935 – (82 years ago)

Derry City defeated Ballymena United 7-1 away from home in the City Cup competition. Archie McLeod (ex-Partick Thistle) scored 4, a single strike from Jimmy Kelly and a brace from Albert Smith secured a huge win for the Brandywell club.

FEBRUARY 27th 1937 – (80 years ago)

Derry City defeated Linfield 1-0 at Windsor Park in the City Cup competition. Archie McLeod (ex-Partick Thistle) with the only goal of the game.

FEBRUARY 27th 1991 – (26 years ago)

Derry City defeated Limerick 2-0 in the final of the League Cup at Brandywell. Goals from Felix Healy and Joe Hanrahan saw the Candy Stripes lift the trophy for the second time since they entered the league of Ireland in 1985.

Belfast Celtic inflicted a 5-1 defeat on Derry in an Irish League fixture at Celtic Park, Belfast. Jimmy Kelly scoring the only goal for City.

A strike from John Bacon secured a 1-1 draw for the Candy Stripes against Dundalk in a league fixture at Oriel Park.

Derry City drew 1-1 with Dundalk in a friendly fixture, Colin Hilley scoring the City goal.

MARCH 1st 1941- (76 years ago)

Derry City drew 2-2 with Distillery at Brandywell in the Northern Regional League, with goals from Jimmy Kelso and Jimmy Kelly.

MARCH 1st 1987 – (30 years ago)

A hat-trick from Alex Kristic gave the Candy Stripes a memorable 3-1 win away to Cork City in the second round of the FAI Cup.

Derry City and Glenavon played out a 2-2 draw at Brandywell in the City Cup competition. Jock Grant (ex-Airdrie) and Archie McLeod (ex-Partick Thistle) with the City goals.

MARCH 2nd 1957 – (60 years ago)

Derry City defeated Ards 3-0 at Brandywell in the second round of the Irish Cup. Frankie Campbell, Jobby Crossan & Eddie Nash were on the scoresheet.

MARCH 2nd 1995 – (22 years ago)

Derry City played Lyngby FC in a friendly fixture at Brandywell. With City leading 2-1 with goals from Liam Coyle and Paul Kinnaird – the referee abandoned the game in 2nd half due to heavy snowfall.

In a Northern Regional League fixture at Solitude, Derry City came away with a convincing 4-1 win against hosts Cliftonville. With goals from Joe Loughran (ex Burnley), Jimmy Kelly & Davy Martin 2 (ex Notts Forest)

MARCH 3rd 1996 – (21 years ago)

A penalty from Paul Curran secured a point for Derry in a 1-1 draw against Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

Derry suffered a heavy defeat to Belfast Celtic in the City Cup competition. The Brandywell outfit were defeated 7-2 by Celtic, with City’s goals coming from John Forster (ex Waterford Utd) & EDR Shearer

Cliftonville defeated the Candy Stripes by seven goals to nil in the Northern Regional League at Solitude.

Belfast Celtic hammered Derry by eight goals to nil in an Irish League fixture at Celtic Park.

Derry City defeated Longford Town 3-0 at home in the quarter final of the FAI Cup. Liam Coyle, Jonathan Speak and Paul Doolin with the goals.

MARCH 5th 2010 – (7 years ago)

Derry City drew 1-1 at home to Cork City FORAS in their first game in the league of Ireland first division since 1985. Emmett Friars with the Candy Stripes goal.

Derry City drew 1-1 with Linfield at Windsor Park in the Setanta Sports Cup. David McDaid on 85 mins with a late equaliser for City.
