MARCH 13th 1937 – (80 years ago)

Derry City defeated Distillery 4-1 at home in the City Cup competition. Goalscorers were Archie McLeod (ex-Partick Thistle), Jimmy Kelly 2 and Harry Duffy (ex-Yoker Athletic). Indeed, this win was Derry’s fortieth home game in a row without defeat.

MARCH 13th 1988 – (29 years ago)

Goals from Jonathan Speak, John Cunningham and Paul Carlyle gave the Candy Stripes a 3-2 win over Limerick at Brandywell in a Premier Division fixture.

MARCH 13th 2006 – (11 years ago)

Derry City played their first home game in the Setanta Cup competition, defeating Belfast club Glentoran 3-1, with goals from Gary Beckett and a brace by Sean Hargan.

MARCH 14th 1971 – (46 years ago)

A solitary goal from Danny Hale gave Derry a 1-0 win over Linfield in the Irish Cup Semi-Final which was played at Coleraine. The Brandywell Club went on to lose 3-0 to Distillery the final.

Goals from Mark Farren and Ciaran Martyn secured a 2-1 win over Finn Harps in the Brandywell.

Derry defeated Larne 5-0 at Brandywell in the City Cup competition. Sammy Curran 2 (ex Belfast Celtic), Reed (ex Rotherham) and Gerry Stewart were among the goals.

MARCH 15th 1987 – (30 years ago)

Derry City lost 2-1 to Bohemians at Dalymount Park in a feisty FAI Cup quarter-final tie. Derry had Kevin Mahon and Noel King sent off in the second half of an action-packed, never to be forgotten encounter.

Derry City defeated UCD 6-0 away from home with goals from R Patterson 3, Thomas Crawley, Marc Griffin, Michael Rafter

Derry City defeated the Leicestershire Regiment 8-1 in the semi-final of the North West Senior Cup. Jock Grant 2 (ex-Airdrie), Archie McLeod 3 (ex-Partick Thistle), Jimmy Kelly 2 and Hughie Carlyle with the goals.

MARCH 16th 1986 – (31 years ago)

Derry lost 1-0 to Cork City in the quarter-final of the FAI Cup.

During the week beginning 17th March 1934 a meeting held in the Union Hall, came to the conclusion that Derry City FC should carry on to the end of the season despite the desperate financial position the club found itself in.

Derry City defeated Shelbourne away from home 5-0 in a league fixture with goals from Speak, Carlyle, Hanrahan, McCann, Gauld (pen).

Derry City striker Alex Kristic made a guest appearance for Shamrock Rovers in a friendly match against Manchester United at Glenmalure Park, Dublin.
