Derry City U17 striker Mikey Sweeney in action against Athlone Town

The Derry City U17 development side played out a scoreless draw with Dundalk at Oriel Park on Sunday in matchday four of the SSE Airtricity Northern Elite Division.

From their matches played to date, the young Candy Stripes have lost both home games against St Patrick’s Athletic and Athlone Town, while securing credible draws away to Shelbourne and now Dundalk.

The Lilywhites remain unbeaten in their opening five league fixtures and Gary Duffy’s side will be delighted to have come away from the County Louth venue with a point.

City also notched up their first clean sheet of the season and Duffy will now hope his new look squad can take confidence and build on their positive display against Dundalk going into the first of two games this week.

On Wednesday night, Derry travel to the Curragh, Killygordon to play North-West rivals Finn Harps in the first round of the Mark Farren Memorial Cup. Declan Boyle’s side have made a good start to their season winning three out of their opening four fixtures.
