U13: 3-2 v Monaghan/Cavan FP

Derry City U17s and U13s secured excellent results in the respective fixtures on Saturday afternoon but there was disappointment for the U15s who fell to defeat in the North West derby against Finn Harps.

Pride of place must go the Donal O’Brien and Mo Mahon’s U17s who defeated league leaders Bohemians/SKB by one goal to nil. This was Derry’s first win against Bohs in Dublin. Read the rest of this entry »

Derry City face Sligo Rovers for the third time this season at Under-15 level on Wednesday evening.

The game will take place at the Sligo Showgrounds, kick-off is at 7.30pm.

Paul Johnston netted his sixth goal of the season against Dundalk at Oriel Park.

Ryan McCreadie and Paul Johnston (pictured) were on the mark as Derry City U15s recorded a fine 2-2 draw with Dundalk at Oriel Park this afternoon.

This result marks City’s first point in the Elite phase after losing their opening fixture to Bray Wanderers.

Weekend Fixtures: 12-14 July

It’s another busy weekend of football at the Academy over the next few days.

Saturday afternoon sees both the Under-15 and Under-13 squads in action.

The 15s travel to Oriel Park to face Dundalk, who have won their opening two fixtures in the Elite Phase. While the 13s take on the Mayo SL for the third time this season at Castlebar.

The Under-19s and Under-17s face a double-header against Longford Town on Sunday afternoon. Shaun Holmes’ third-placed Under-19s will look to make it six games unbeaten when they welcome the Midlanders to Brandywell while the 17s make the long journey to the City Calling Stadium.

All four games kick-off at 2pm.

Underage results week-ending July 7

It was another good weekend for the Derry City development squads with the U17s progressing to the quarter-finals of the Mark Farren Cup and the U19s extending their unbeaten run to five games.

  • U19s move up to third place in the table with their fifth straight win.
  • Patrick Ferry netted a brace as the U17s advance to the last eight of the Mark Farren Cup.
  • The U13s fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to UCD.
Ronan McAleer showed up well during Derry City U19s 3-0 win over Monaghan/Cavan FP at the weekend.

It was a mixed weekend for Derry’s underage sides with all four age groups in action.

  • U19s secure their fourth win in a row, without conceding a goal.
  • A Ronan McKinley effort seals a disappointing draw for the 17s.
  • 15s fall to a 3-1 defeat in opening game of the elite phase.
  • A sixth goal of the season from Brandon Crockett seals a point for the 13s.

Following the mid-season break, the Derry City development squads returned to competitive action at the weekend with games against Monaghan/Cavan FP and Bray Wanderers.

The Candy Stripes travelled to Gortakeegan with a threadbare squad, which included five members of the U17 panel but still managed to deliver a solid performance to come away with all three points. Weekend Fixtures: 28-30 June

Following the mid-season break, the Derry City development squads return to competitive action this weekend with games against Monaghan/Cavan FP and Bray Wanderers.

On Saturday afternoon, the Under-19s will be aiming to make it four wins in a row when Shaun Holmes’ outfit face Monaghan/Cavan FP at Gortakeegan, kick-off (2pm).

The City Under-13 and Under-15 panels have both qualified for the elite phase and will face a double-header against Bray Wanderers at Aileach FC on Saturday, kick-off (2pm).

Conor Loughrey’s talented U15s have had an excellent first half of the season, playing an attractive possession-based game and scoring an impressive 34 goals in the progress.

The City U13s continue to enjoy their football with an expressive and enterprising style that is super to watch and head into this weekend’s game on the back of a superb win over Finn Harps.

On Sunday afternoon, the Under-17s welcome Cavan/Monaghan FP to Brandywell, kick-off is at 2pm. In their last outing, City defeated Drogheda United by two goals to one, Patrick Ferry and Michael Harris the scorers. A win on Sunday will see Donal O’Brien and Mo Mahon’s men move into fourth place in the table.

Under 15: Phase Two

The SSE Airtricity National Under 15 League structure for the second half of the season has been confirmed.

Derry City U15s finished runners-up to North West rivals Finn Harps in Group One of the SSE Airtricity League.

The City youngsters, under the new management team of Conor Loughrey and Rory Keohe, will take their place in the elite stage of the competition for the first time.

The Candy Stripes have been drawn in Group One with Bray Wanderers, Dundalk, Finn Harps, St Patrick’s Athletic and Sligo Rovers.

In Group Two, Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers, Cork City, Galway United, Kerry and Waterford will compete for a place in the national knockout stage.

On Saturday afternoon, Conor Loughrey’s U15 outfit hosted Sligo Rovers at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium looking for a win that would propel them to the top of Group One. Derry came into the fixture on the back of three straight victories over Mayo FC, Finn Harps and Longford Town, scoring twelve times in the process and without conceding. Under-19s

In the Under-19 Northern Elite Division, the Candy Stripes host Shelbourne at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium on Sunday, April 14, kick-off at 2 pm.

It has been a tough start to the season for Shaun Holmes’ troops with three defeats from the opening four games. But they have a great opportunity to get back on track this weekend when the entertain Shelbourne at the Brandywell.

Derry’s record against Shels at U19 level is impressive, only one defeat in nine meetings but traditionally the games have been close affairs.

All four of the Derry City underage development squads are in action this weekend in their respective age groups.

Derry U19s will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to Sligo on Sunday (kick-off 2pm). Narrow defeats against Dundalk and Bohemians in their last two outings means City need a result against the Bit O’Red to push them back up the table.

The Derry City U17’s entertain Sligo Rovers at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 2pm). Donal O’Brien and Mo Mahon’s troops will look to build on last weekend’s excellent performance against league leaders Bohemians/SKB.

The Derry City U15s make the long journey to the City Calling Stadium to play Longford Town on Saturday (kick-off 2pm). Manager Conor Loughery will be keen to get their season up and running after a number of postponements in the opening weeks of the season.

The U13s will host Longford Town at Aileach FC on Saturday afternoon. Pat McCourt and Neil McCafferty will look to make home advantage count as the City youngsters go in search of their second win of the season.
