Derry City U17s make their second long trip in the space of four days when they travel to the Carlisle Grounds on Wednesday to face Bray Wanderers in the quarter-final of the Mark Farren Cup.

The Candy Stripes will bid to reach the last four of the competition for only the second time.

  • U19s eight-game unbeaten run comes to an end.

  • Boyce was sent-off with seconds remaining.

Bohemians scored two goals in stoppage time to bring Derry City U19s unbeaten run to an abrupt end.

The young Candy Stripes had established a one-goal lead in a close encounter at Brandywell courtesy of an Odhran Kennedy effort on 34 minutes.

But Shaun Holmes’ men, who were resolute in their defending all afternoon, were undone in the 92nd minute when Dawson Devoy, the league’s top marksman, blasted home a free-kick from the edge of the area to equalise.

Derry City 1-2 Bohemians

Derry City U19s suffered a cruel defeat at the hands of Bohemians this afternoon.

City took the lead on 34 minutes when Odhran Kennedy converted from close range after an excellent cross from Evan McLaughlin.

Derry defended superbly all afternoon but were undone in injury time when Dawson Devoy blasted home a free-kick in the 92nd minute before they netted the winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

City will look to bounce back next weekend against Sligo Rovers.

Derry City U17s and U13s secured excellent results in the respective fixtures on Saturday afternoon but there was disappointment for the U15s who fell to defeat in the North West derby against Finn Harps.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Derry City U17s as they lost 4-1 to Dundalk in the SSE Airtricity Northern Elite Division at Brandywell on Sunday.

An understrength City side who were missing five talented regulars, defender Ryan Kennedy, captain and talisman Caoimhin Porter, and the midfield trio of Orrin McLaughlin, Ronan McKinley and Ronan McAleer, just couldn’t handle the attacking prowess of the Dundalk forwards. Super Cup NI: Eight of the best

We would like to extend our best wishes to the Derry City Academy players who are in action during this week’s Super Cup NI tournament.

Six City youngsters will be part of Martin Smith’s County Derry Junior squad and will open their campaign tomorrow (Monday, July 29) with a fixture against Plymouth Argyle at Portstewart (KO 4pm), before taking on Arsenal on Tuesday at Anderson Park in Coleraine (KO 6.45pm). The final group game on Wednesday against Co. Armagh will also take place at Anderson Park (KO 5.30pm).

Meanwhile, in the Premier section, two of the City Under-17 panel will be representing their counties, Kyle McCann (Co. Derry) and Ronan McAleer (Co. Tyrone).

The eight lads participation in this week’s international tournament will provide more valuable experience for the guys as they continue their development.

Untitled-2Confirmation tonight that Derry City U19s will host Shamrock Rovers in the quarter-final of the Enda McGuill Cup.

In the last remaining second round tie, Rovers defeated St Patrick’s Ath by two goals to one this evening, which sets up a mouth-watering tie between Derry and Rovers.

The Dublin side, who netted an incredible 64 goals from their ten fixtures during the first phase were taken all the way by a talented and well organised Derry City side.

Weekend Fixtures: 12-14 July

It’s another busy weekend of football at the Academy over the next few days.

Saturday afternoon sees both the Under-15 and Under-13 squads in action.

The 15s travel to Oriel Park to face Dundalk, who have won their opening two fixtures in the Elite Phase. While the 13s take on the Mayo SL for the third time this season at Castlebar.

The Under-19s and Under-17s face a double-header against Longford Town on Sunday afternoon. Shaun Holmes’ third-placed Under-19s will look to make it six games unbeaten when they welcome the Midlanders to Brandywell while the 17s make the long journey to the City Calling Stadium.

All four games kick-off at 2pm.

Following the mid-season break, the Derry City development squads return to competitive action this weekend with games against Monaghan/Cavan FP and Bray Wanderers.

On Saturday afternoon, the Under-19s will be aiming to make it four wins in a row when Shaun Holmes’ outfit face Monaghan/Cavan FP at Gortakeegan, kick-off (2pm).

The City Under-13 and Under-15 panels have both qualified for the elite phase and will face a double-header against Bray Wanderers at Aileach FC on Saturday, kick-off (2pm).

Conor Loughrey’s talented U15s have had an excellent first half of the season, playing an attractive possession-based game and scoring an impressive 34 goals in the progress.

The City U13s continue to enjoy their football with an expressive and enterprising style that is super to watch and head into this weekend’s game on the back of a superb win over Finn Harps.

On Sunday afternoon, the Under-17s welcome Cavan/Monaghan FP to Brandywell, kick-off is at 2pm. In their last outing, City defeated Drogheda United by two goals to one, Patrick Ferry and Michael Harris the scorers. A win on Sunday will see Donal O’Brien and Mo Mahon’s men move into fourth place in the table.
