Shane McNamee makes competitive first-team debut

Posted on Updated on

Congratulations to Derry City Under-19 attacking midfielder Shane McNamee, who made his competitive first-team debut this evening, coming on as a second-half substitute against Shamrock Rovers.

Shane joined Derry from his local club Swilly Rovers and scored on his debut for the club’s Under-17 side in a 2-1 defeat at home to Shelbourne in August 2015.

The 19-year-old comes from a well-known and respected football family and is the third part in the McNamee trilogy at the Brandywell, following in the footsteps of his two older brothers Barry and Tony in wearing the Candy Striped jersey.

With sublime technique, intelligent movement and a fine range of passing, the Ramelton man, who has scored over 20 goals for the underage sides, possesses all the attributes needed to have a successful career in the game.

His progress is a testament to the great work performed by the club’s underage development coaches.

Well done Shane.
